Mary again!

Jesus is the Life. The only one! We know that, but is so easy to get distracted. Too easy.  Sometimes we just want to “see the daughters of the Land” without thinking of the consequences (Genesis 34). Sometimes we want to fight for ourselves, for our rights and we drift away from God, slowly but surely (Exodus 12 ). Miriam was great: devoted, passionate. She loved God. She followed God. But she questioned Moses. After all, “Has the Lord indeed spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us also?” And God heard her and she was punished. After that incident, the Bible doesn’t say a word about her until her death. Martha! She is my favourite. Her motivations were good. She had just a lot to do. She had to serve the Lord, to clean. She was busy. She was “worried and troubled about many things.” About her duty, about her rights (Why did she have to do all that alone), about serving Jesus, about her sister’s attitude…  (Luke 10: 439-42). Her eyes were not fixed on Jesus. And besides her was… Mary.  She chose the good part, the one needed thing: Jesus.
It is so easy for me to be distracted. Sometimes, I just want to see the people of the land. Sometimes, I fight for my rights and others’ rights as well. Sometimes, life is just too complicated and there is so much to do, to deal with, to take care of… All the time my eyes are not fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of my faith (Hebrews 12: 2).
Mary’s eyes were fixed on Jesus, when He was alive as well as when He was dead. At the end, she was the first to see the Risen Lord. She was the first He spoke to (John 20:11-18 ). At the end, “wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.” (Matthew 26: 13).
My prayer is that you and me, we will become like Mary. We will have our eyes fixed on our Lord. We will life in an undivided devotion to the Lord.
