God is not impressed (2)

For thus says the One who is high and lifts up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite” Isaiah 57:15

I grew up knowing that I should respect,  fear and admire people who have money, possessions and/or ego. We tend to be impressed by people who are arrogant and intimidating. But not God. God is not impressed at all. He is high and He does not waste time looking at those who try to be as high as He. He resists the proud. 1 Peter 5:5

From His throne, He looks downs and He eyes catch those who are lowly. Those who know that they are just creatures and that they need God for everything. Those who recognize that they are miserable, wretched and completely lost without Him (Revelation 3:17). Those who fall at His feet, ask for help and recognize Him as Lord  (Mark 5:22-23, 33; 7:25, 37-38; Luke 8:35). Those have His full attention. He comes and dwells with them. He does not only look at them and help them. No, He pours His grace on them and dwells with them (1 Peter 5:5).

And He is impressed. He gives them the greatest place in His kingdom (Matthew 18:14), justified them (Luke 18:14), and  lifts them up (James 4:10). He said Himself: “All these things my hands has made, and so all these things came to be… But this is the one to whom I look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word.” Isaiah 66:2.

We know the secret to have God’s full attention: be humble before Him and tremble at His Word. Humility like faith leads to obedience, to fear God.

God wants our humility. He wants us to walk humbly with Him (Micah 6:8). And then He is impressed… For we understand the most important. We understand that He is God and we are not. And then we can worship Him as He deserves to be worshipped, with fear and trembling.(Psalm 2:11).
