Encouraging one another

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. (Colossians 3:16 ESV)

So let’s do it!!!

Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and a song of praise is fitting. The LORD builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the outcasts of Israel. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names. Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; his understanding is beyond measure. The LORD lifts up the humble; he casts the wicked to the ground. Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; make melody to our God on the lyre! He covers the heavens with clouds; he prepares rain for the earth; he makes grass grow on the hills. He gives to the beasts their food, and to the young ravens that cry. His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the legs of a man, but the LORD takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love. Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion! For he strengthens the bars of your gates; he blesses your children within you. He makes peace in your borders; he fills you with the finest of the wheat. He sends out his command to the earth; his word runs swiftly. He gives snow like wool; he scatters frost like ashes. He hurls down his crystals of ice like crumbs; who can stand before his cold? He sends out his word, and melts them; he makes his wind blow and the waters flow. He declares his word to Jacob, his statutes and rules to Israel. He has not dealt thus with any other nation; they do not know his rules. Praise the LORD! (Psalm 147 ESV)

Amen!

They all did as they wanted

In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did what was right in his own eyes. (Judges 21:25 ESV)

It was so easy for them to forget God, so easy not to see what He was doing in their midst. They did not have a king, so they forgot about the Law and all God’s commandments. They did what they wanted when they wanted it. And despite all, God was there for them, loving them, fighting for them, disciplining them, delivering them.

Even when we forget God, He is still the same. His love does not depend on our love. oh, I am not talking about running wide and sinning because of God’s grace. No, I am talking about the grace and mercy we need as sinners, when our emotions, our feelings win. I am talking about the grace that leads us to repentance through Christ’s love, the grace that makes us run to the throne of grace to receive help.

God be praised for He does not change, for His faithfulness, for His steadfast love.

…”if we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself.”  (2 Timothy 2:13 ESV)

Happy New Year

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change. Of his own will he brought us forth by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. (James 1:17-18)

Here is the New Year! We took decisions, we made prayers and we are full of hope. But we are uncertain. We don’t know if the year will turn out the way we want to, if God will answer us the way we would like to.  But there are two things we can be sure of.

First, God is God and will be God until the end of this year (and after, of course). He will be the same. He is going to be faithful, to care for us and to love us in a way we cannot even begin to imagine. He is going to be sovereign and all-powerful and good. And so good. His mercies will be new every morning and we could always draw near Him.

Secondly, there will be sufferings, pain. God will discipline us. If you are His child,  with love and tenderness, He will discipline you (Hebrews 12:3-10). But if you don’t forget who He is, if you run to Him when it is hard, if you keep your eyes on Jesus, if you don’t forget that He took your punishment and gave you everlasting joy, everything will be fine. Because at the end of the day, it depends on the One who died on the cross for us. It depends on the One who can do anything.

Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. (Ephesians 3:20-21 )

Never alone

“If you love me, you will keep my commandments. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of truth…”  John 14:15-17
Let’s be honest being single is not always easy. I don’t know for you but there are days when being  alone seems a curse. When  my friends and siblings get married and have babies I feel abandoned by the Lord. When it is dark and cold outside  I dream of someone to wander with me on the city streets. When it is difficult to pray or to evangelize I wish I had that partner with me. Sometimes I just want to share a joke, a line from a movie, a good news or a meal with that special someone. Sometimes I want to be the helper I think God created me to be.
Being single is difficult. You want and need someone to help you carry the grocery bags. You need help to put together that bed you just bought. You need someone to tell you that you are beautiful when you feel ugly. You need someone with whom to share that scripture, that revelation you just have about Jesus at 2 a.m. I can go on and on.
But just when you wonder how you will keep going alone, the king steps in. He makes your life looks like a movie and saves you at the last moment. He defeats the devil, wiping out all your doubts and pouring all His love on you.
He is never far. He always with you (Matthew 28:20), ready to come to your rescue even when you don’t ask for help. You are not an orphan ( John 14:18). You are never left alone “for your Maker is your husband.” (Isaiah 54:4-8)
You have a Helper, an Advocate, a Counselor who fights for you, guides you, helps you, giving you what you need emotional, physically, materially and spiritually.
How He does it is not important. He is doing it every day  of your life if you keep Jesus’ commands.
Does that truth changes my reality? Not really. But I am comforted. I know I am loved. I know that I am not alone. When it is hard, I  have someone to turn to. I will always be helped because my God is faithful. No, ” God is not man, that He should lie, or a son of man, that He should change His mind.” (Number 23:19)
